An Old Acquaintance

While at the mall visiting my close friends at their workplace, I ran into one of my old classmate in high school. We use to have french class together, I can still vividly see him in his loose fitting tee and curly messy hair. He was the joker in the class and made lots of funny remarks, but never anything too annoying. He was well liked by all. Looking at him now, he has matured into a fine man. I was standing in front of a fully clad marine proudly smiling back at me. Honestly, I barely recognize him from before. If he hadn’t approached my friend and I, we would have never thought that he was the same person. He looked handsome in his suit and seeing him grow and evolve into such a person evoked a sense of pride in myself. I’m so proud of how far he has gotten in his life.

No matter what your political stances are, or your view on the war and the army, there is no denying the vast efforts and sacrifices of our veterans and serving men and women. Today is not the nation’s BBQ party, but a day of remembrance and gratitude. Let’s set aside our strong opinions/differences for just one day in order to honor the fallen soldiers and surviving vets that has kept this nation free. Happy Memorial Day.
